What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which work by attracting and holding water, Radiesse works in two stages. The gel provides structure and lift straight away, and as the microspheres gradually break down they act as a scaffold that encourages your skin to produce new collagen.
That second stage is why Radiesse is described as a collagen-stimulating filler.
What Radiesse treats
Radiesse is thicker and more structural than most hyaluronic acid fillers, so it is used where the face needs support rather than softness:
- Jawline definition and contour
- Cheek and mid-face volume loss
- Marionette lines and nasolabial folds
- Temple hollows
- Backs of the hands, where volume loss makes veins and tendons more visible
Radiesse is not used in the lips. If lip volume is your goal, a hyaluronic acid filler is the right product, and Krista will tell you so at your consultation.
Radiesse vs. hyaluronic acid fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are gels that add volume and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if an adjustment is ever needed. Radiesse adds volume and builds collagen, tends to last longer, and is not reversible, because there is no dissolving agent for calcium hydroxylapatite.
That difference is exactly why assessment and precise placement matter with Radiesse.
What to expect at your Radiesse appointment
Treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Radiesse is often mixed with lidocaine for comfort and may be placed with a needle or a cannula depending on the area. Results are visible immediately, with the collagen-stimulating effect developing over roughly two to three months. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising for a few days is normal, and most clients return to normal activity the same day.
Results typically last 12 to 18 months, depending on the area treated, the amount used and your skincare and sun habits.
